The Need

A survey by Uganda Debt Network revealed key challenges facing Uganda’s Universal Primary Education (UPE):

  • Teacher Shortage: Increased student enrollment under UPE has outpaced the availability of teachers.
  • High Teacher-Student Ratio: Overcrowded classrooms and unsustainable ratios impact learning quality.
  • Inadequate Resources: Poor teacher welfare, insufficient funding, and lack of essential facilities hinder effective education.
  • Infrastructure Gaps: Many schools lack proper classrooms, forcing students to learn in makeshift structures or under trees, which disrupts learning during bad weather.
  • Poor Sanitation: Pupils and teachers often share latrines, with no separate facilities for boys and girls.
  • High Dropout Rates: Poor learning environments, overcrowding, and inadequate materials drive many students to leave school.

Our Response

Grimmius Hands is looking to build primary and vocational schools in Mbale to support vulnerable communities by bringing quality yet affordable education.

Our mission is to empower underprivileged children and youth with quality education and life skills. This will cover ethics, science, technology, arts, and character development within a supportive learning environment.

Grimmius Schools aim to provide affordable education to marginalised children and youth, including orphans and those from unprivileged families.
